Fee Structure

Access our state-of-the-art equipment.

The ANFF recognises three classes of user: Honours, Masters, PhD students, publicly funded researchers, including University researchers, and industry/commercial users. Either through pay-as-you-go or subscription-based use.

Applicable to universities, CRCs, MRFF projects, ANSTO, CSIRO, hospitals and medical research institutes.

Subscriptions

  • All subscription options exclude consumables, which are charged separately based on actual use.

  • Additional labour charges, beyond training and expert advice provision, will be billable.

  • For UOW Academic users - a valid UOW Journal account must be provided to be eligible.

  • For non-UOW Academic users - subscriptions must be paid in advance via the users host

  • University to be eligible.


HDR Subscription Options

HDR (PhD and MSc) and Honours students may access ANFF Materials Node facilities in 2026 under one of the subscription options outlined below. Subscription access is designed to provide predictable costs, flexibility in project planning, and broad access to the full range of Materials Node equipment. Subscription may be carried into the next calendar year.

​•    Option A: 12-month subscription | $200 per month + consumables
Best suited to ongoing or multi-stage research projects requiring regular facility access.
•    Option B: 6-month subscription | $250 per month + consumables
Suitable for defined project phases, thesis experiments, or time-limited studies.
•    Option C: 3-month subscription | $300 per month + consumables
Ideal for short, intensive experimental programs or proof-of-concept work.​​​​

EMCR Subscription Options

Early and Mid-Career Researcher (EMCR) fellowship holders—including recipients of ARC DECRA and Future Fellowships, NHMRC fellowships, and philanthropic fellowships (e.g. Snow Medical Research)—may access ANFF Materials Node facilities in 2026 under one of the subscription options outlined below.

•    Option A: 12-month subscription | $400 per month + consumables
Best suited to ongoing fellowship programs requiring regular and flexible facility access throughout the year.
•    Option B: 6-month subscription | $500 per month + consumables
Appropriate for defined project phases, grant-funded milestones, or concentrated experimental campaigns.
•    Option C: 3-month subscription | $600 per month + consumables
Ideal for short, intensive periods of facility use or targeted experimental programs.

 

Academic Grant Holder Subscription options

Academic researchers holding grant funding—including ARC Discovery Projects (DP), Linkage Projects (LP), Australian Laureate Fellowships (ALF), NHMRC grants, Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF), Australian Economic Accelerator (AEA), UOW Commercial Research Projects and postdoctoral appointments supported under these schemes (excluding competitively awarded fellowships)—may access ANFF Materials Node facilities in 2026 under one of the subscription options outlined below.


•    Option A: 12-month subscription | $500 per month + consumables
Best suited to sustained research programs requiring regular access to ANFF facilities throughout the year.
•    Option B: 6-month subscription | $600 per month + consumables
Appropriate for defined project phases, experimental campaigns, or periods of increased facility use.
•    Option C: 3-month subscription | $700 per month + consumables
Ideal for short, intensive research activities or targeted access to specialised equipment.

Subscription terms and conditions I. ANFF Materials Node subscriptions include: •Equipment usage time •Staff consultation time •Training activities •The ability to carry subscriptions into the next calendar year. II. Direct Staff Service Support: ANFF Materials staff may conduct service work on behalf of a user upon request. •Labour not related to training or consultation is billable at $90/hr. •Users will be notified of any labour charges before work is undertaken. III. Usage Logging & Consumables Charges: •All ANFF usage will be logged via the AIIM ACLS Booking System by the user. •All bookings not cancelled prior to the activity starting date and time will be final and will be billed based upon the booking record. •Users must provide a separate account to cover consumables or additional labour charges. IV. Restricted Equipment Access (ANFF Staff supported access only) •Some equipment can only be operated by ANFF staff due to complexity and safety issues. •Labour for these staff‑only operated tools will be included in the subscription rate. •Ancillary activities (such as post-production cleaning) will be the responsibility of the subscription holder otherwise labour time will be billed V. Payment Terms •All subscriptions are payable in advance. •All subscriptions are non-transferable and are for specific users only •3- and 6-month subscriptions are non‑refundable •12‑month subscriptions may be refunded pro-rata if a student is no longer enrolled (e.g., due to thesis submission or withdrawal). In this instance the primary supervisor may request a pro‑rata refund to the originally billed account only. VII. Typical Equipment Rates (Pay‑as‑you‑go users) Most tools operate under the following rate model: •$25/hour flag‑fall, then $12.50/hour thereafter. Some tools may differ (e.g.: UV‑Vis: $5.00/$2.50 per hour •Some equipment includes billing caps. •ANFF labour: $90/hr where applicable •Please refer to the ANFF Rates and Charges document for tool‑specific costs.
